Sophie Crichton
TAKING INSPIRATION FROM THE SEEMINGLY MUNDANE AND QUOTIDIAN PARTS OF LIFE, SOPHIE CRICHTON’S WORK IS A VISUAL MANIFESTATION OF EXPERIENCE.
Characterised by the physicality and saturation of the urban landscape – the patina of dirt, tangled wires, graffiti, decay – Crichton’s immersive abstract compositions are undergirded by personal memories and interpretations of reality. Using texture, expressive mark making, ink, spray and line, Crichton approaches painting with an intuitive raw energy that negotiates the line between accident and intent and embraces the freedom of uncertainty. Born in Toronto, Canada, Crichton currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain.
